Esther Willa Stilwell was born in 1996 and grew up in Santa Cruz, CA. Her upbringing was strongly influenced by her step-fathers childhood in authoritarian Chile, her mother's childhood on a commune in the 70’s, her step-mother's childhood in Egypt, and her Father's childhood in suburbia. Stilwell moved to Southern California in 2014 to attend college. She has held positions at The Studio Museum in Harlem, The Pomona College Museum of Art, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Quito, The LAB, and Hyde Park Art Center. Stilwell has shown her work both nationally and internationally including exhibitions at No Lugar (Quito, EC), Pomona College (CA), Scripps College (CA), and Harvey Mudd College (CA). Her drawings and paintings have been published as cover art for musicians and writers such as Nafets and Micah Perks. Esther Willa Stilwell recently graduated from Pitzer College, double majoring in studio art and organizational studies.
